You are invited to an evening dedicated to the courageous survivors of war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Read their stories, see their portraits, and hear from our panel as we discuss the effects of war and how to create sustainable peace. Â
The event will include an exhibition and silent auction of photography portraying the courage and beauty in Congo, including photos taken by former child soldiers.
Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be provided.
All proceeds will benefit Justice Rising International and their efforts to promote education and rebuild communities in Eastern Congo and around the world.Â

Jacqueline Murekatete is an internationally recognized human rights activist, genocide survivor, and lawyer. Born in Rwanda, Jacqueline was nine years old when she lost her parents, all six siblings and most of her extended family to the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. She recently founded Genocide Survivors Foundations to support other survivors and help prevent future genocides.Â
JD Stier is a film producer, campaign director, and speaker who has held leadership positions within numerous high-impact, successful campaigns, including the 2008 U.S. Presidential Campaign, leading to a Presidential Appointment in the White House in 2009. After serving in the White House, JD was selected to lead the Enough Project's Raise Hope for Congo Campaign. Under his leadership, the campaign increased public pressure on the electronics industry to further address the Conflict Minerals crisis, was cited as the difference-maker in creating the Office of the United States Special Envoy to Africa's Great Lakes, and led production of the storytelling video series I Am Congo.
JD is a frequent front page contributor for Politico, Huffington Post, is a recurring guest on MSNBC, is producing two feature length films addressing conditions in Central Africa, and leading the social movement rising to end the crisis.
Cassandra Lee is the founder and president of Justice Rising. She has over ten years of experience working in war-affected areas, including South Sudan, Northern Uganda, the Middle East, and North Korea. For the past five years, she has worked primarily in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, creating education and development opportunities in the areas most devastated by conflict.
